J's staff help Essex County Cricket Club launch their new kit!

25th Apr 2010

Essex County Cricket Club launch their kit for the new season with a little help from staff at The J's Hospice.

Former England captain and Essex county cricket club player Alistair Cook showed off the kit on top of a Penny Farthing bicycle owned by Chris Mills. You may see this bicycle again, as Chris is taking part in Pedal for The J's on July 4th around Essex.

One of our patrons and well-known marathon fundraiser, Lloyd Scott MBE is also in the picture. He's taking part in Pedal for The J's, along with Chris.

On 25th May, there will also be a collection for The J's Hospice at the county cricket ground during the pro 40 match against Yorkshire.

We look forward to developing our relationship with the County team who are supporting the J's Hospice as their chosen charity.

Support the J's through Shopping

2nd Apr 2010

Everyone who registers with www.simplyfundraising.co.uk will be sent a Simply Fundraising pre-paid debit card. Top up the card with your normal spending money whenever you want to. Then, just spend as normal, whenever you wish, with one of the shops or businesses linked to the simplyfundraising directory. A donation will be made to the J's Hospice every time the card is used. Sainsbury's, Boots and Debenhams are among the retailers taking part, so it's easy to raise regular money for the J's just by shopping!

"If I use my Simply Fundraising card to buy my monthly supermarket shopping, I can raise over £100 a year for the J's Hospice." Rene Latta, J's Hospice supporter.

Simply Fundraising prepaid debit cards are managed through Clydesdale bank and can be used anywhere that the MasterCard symbol is displayed. The J's Hospice will receive donations from Simply Fundraising on a monthly basis and supporters can keep a track of their donations via the www.simplyfundraising.co.uk website.

Music in the Mall

Thanks to the incredible support of shoppers in Chelmsford, we raised a grand total of £848 from the 'Music in the Mall' day.

If you weren't there, you missed out on a musical extravaganza with eight acts playing. However, there's another chance to hear them. All the acts who played feature on the J's CD Acoustic Soul Club Vol 2. Find out how you can get your hands on a copy by visiting our 'Get involved' page.

We would like to thank the management of High Chelmer Shopping Centre and the shops for their support in this event.

Sainsbury's say it with flowers

2nd Apr 2010

Mother's Day offered another great fundraising opportunity at Sainsbury's Chelmsford. Staff put on a flower gift wrapping service. The J's team were there to help Lyn Bracci and Helen from Sainsbury's to wrap the flowers until midday on Sunday when they sold out! We also had several people collecting through the weekend and raised a staggering £800.

Thanks to all the staff and customers at Sainsbury's for their generosity.

Curry and Bingo night

2nd Apr 2010

J's supporters gathered for two of Britain's favourites, curry and bingo, at the Shafiques restaurant in Writtle.

After a splendid curry buffet of Indian cuisine, it was eyes down and pens at the ready. Over 100 people attended the event and raised just over £1,000.

Thanks so much to the wonderful staff at Shafiques and everyone who took part on the night.

The Writtle quiz

2nd Apr 2010

138 people came along to our 6th annual quiz held at the Writtle sports and social club. The quiz, raffle and games raised an amazing £1.300 on the night.

Many thanks to Barry and Sue Linger and Chris Hibbitt for his great quiz and everyone who helped make this another successful night for the J's Hospice.

Lloyd Scott MBE joins The J's

4th Feb 2010

For those of you who don't know who Lloyd Scott is - he's the man who ran the London Marathon in 2002 in a deep-sea diving costume during which he broke the world record for the slowest marathon time.

Lloyd, who's from Essex, used to be a football goalkeeper, but is now best known for his charity marathons. Having survived cancer, Lloyd understands the need for The J's Hospice and its age-appropriate aims and has happily agreed to become one of our patrons. We are so glad to have him on board.

Many thanks to Lloyd for all his support so far and into the future.

Charity of the Year

3rd Feb 2010

The J's Hospice is now the chosen charity for The County Hotel in Chelmsford. Staff are going to help us by providing rooms for events, hosting events and helping with food.

We're also proud to be one of three charities supported by the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Tony Sach. The other two are; The Chelmsford Association for Disabled Sport and Kids Inspire. Thanks to everyone for raising awareness of the charity.

The Essex County Cricket Club are supporting the J’s Hospice.

12th Jan 2010

David East, the Chief Executive of Essex County Cricket Club, is pleased to announce that the club is supporting the J's Hospice. The J's will be helping 18 to 40 year old young adults from the East of England and this is the age range that most of our players fall into. We realise that something can happen to anybody at anytime and they may need the assitance of The J's. We want to help raise funds to deliver their services and to raise awareness of their work.

"We look forward to developing and forging a strong relationship with the J's over time. To start with, our shops will stock the new CD and book that the charity have. This is something exciting and new for us, and I am sure we will find many other good ways to help and work together." said Mr East.
