Please donate to our shop in Clacton

We have a shop in Clacton that sells donated items to raise money for The J’s Hospice. We always need new stock so please think of us when you are having a tidy up, spring cleaning or moving house and have good-quality items that you do not want anymore.

Please see below to find out:
- What you can donate
- How to make a donation
- How to Gift Aid your donations to make them work 25% more
- How to host a donation station
- How to become a shop volunteer

What you can donate

- ladies’, men’s and children’s clothing
- accessories including shoes, scarves, belts, bags and hats
- jewellery, collectibles and small items of any value
- bric-a-brac including china, glassware, crockery, artwork and ornaments
- books
- CDs, DVDs and games
- homeware including, curtains, linen and cushions
- small and unbroken children’s toys with the CE label still attached.

All donations must be clean, useable and of saleable quality - if you wouldn’t buy it then we probably cannot sell it!

How to make a donation

You can drop off your donations at our Clacton shop. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to accept shop donations in our offices at Alexandra House, Great Baddow, but the nearby Little Havens Hospice Shop is able to accept these donations on our behalf, with money raised from the sale of your goods providing care for children and young adults across Essex.

The J's Hospice shop address: The J's Hospice Shop, 62 Rosemary Road, Clacton CO15 1TE Tel: 01255 479573

Little Havens shop address: Little Havens Shop, 2 The Vineyards, Great Baddow, Essex CM2 7QS

At the Little Havens shop, there is good access for donated goods by using the back entrance located adjacent to the car park on the corner of The Causeway and Maldon Road. There is a door bell and staff will come to the door to greet you.

Little Havens Children’s Hospice provides care and support to children with life limiting conditions across Essex. The goods you donate will be sold in either The J’s Hospice shop or Little Havens shops and the funds raised will go towards the care of children and young adults with life-limiting conditions across Essex.

If you have a lot of items to donate, please call our fundraising team on 01245 475474 to see if we can collect them.

How to Gift Aid your donations

When you donate items to our shop, your donations could be worth 25% more if you sign up to Gift Aid.

If you are an eligible UK taxpayer and donate money to The J’s Hospice, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give through Gift Aid at no extra cost to you - so every £1 you give is actually worth £1.25.

We have now introduced the Gift Aid scheme to our Clacton shop - so we can also claim an extra 25% on the amount raised from the goods that you donate. This means that if you donate a bag of clothes and they sell for a total of £20, they would actually raise £25 through Gift Aid.

It is really easy for your donations to raise 25% more - just ask for a Gift Aid declaration form when you drop your donations off at our Clacton shop. When you have signed up for Gift Aid, you will be given a Donor ID Number which must be written on every bag of goods that you donate.

If you make a donation at the Little Havens shop, your J’s Hospice Gift Aid declaration remains valid but staff may ask if you can complete a Gift Aid declaration for Little Havens too. If you already are a Gift Aid donor for The J’s Hospice and for Little Havens Hospice, it will not be necessary to sign a new form.

Can you host a Donation Station?

Our donation stations are an easy way to collect items to sell at our shop. Nuffield Health in Chelmsford has had a donation station for over a year which has been really successful. Thanks to the generosity of its staff and customers, their donated items have helped to raise over £19,200. Manager Steve Boyd is delighted: “I am impressed that our donation station has raised so much. Nuffield Health Chelmsford is pleased to support a fantastic charity like The J’s Hospice that takes care of young people. We are very grateful to our members for being so generous and ask them to keep bringing in their donations so we can raise even more.”

Do you know of a busy place – e.g. an office, school, church, shopping centre or gym - who would like to collect donations for us? Please contact our fundraising team: 01245 475474  or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Shop volunteers needed

We need more volunteers at our shop to help on the sales floor and in the sorting area. If you can get to Rosemary Road in Clacton and have a few hours to offer as a volunteer, please call our shop manager on 01255 479573 for more information.
